CUENCA - GUAMOTE




Cuenca – Cojitambo – Ingapirca – Guamote
We begin our adventure early, departing from Cuenca and passing through the picturesque towns of Solano and Déleg. Our first stop is the archaeological site of Cojitambo, where we will embark on the Civilization Seekers: From the Andes to the Amazon route. Here, you'll discover the fascinating history of the Cañaris and Incas, civilizations that left a profound mark in southern Ecuador. Explore the legacy of Cañari cosmology, mythology, and art before continuing to the majestic Ingapirca, the most important ceremonial temple in the country, where you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch of local specialties at a historic hacienda.
We will then head north through breathtaking Andean landscapes, ascending to 3,500 meters above sea level before arriving at Guamote, a charming town surrounded by mountains. Here, we’ll stay at the traditional Hacienda Santa Ana, a cozy retreat nestled in the heart of the Andes.

Guamote – Ozogoche Lagoons – Atillo – Macas
After a nutritious breakfast, we’ll set off on a day full of dramatic geographical contrasts. First, we’ll visit the mountainous desert of Palmira, and then ascend to 4,000 meters to reach the mystical Ozogoche Lagoons, famous for the mysterious natural phenomenon known as the "Tribute," where migratory birds offer their lives. From here, we’ll cross valleys and mountain paths to reach the Atillo lake complex, surrounded by majestic peaks and Andean páramos.
The day will end with a spectacular descent into the Amazon rainforest, where waterfalls, lush vegetation, and wildlife will accompany us all the way to Macas, where you can relax at the charming Arrayán y Piedra Lodge with views of the Upano River.

Full Adventure Day in Macas
Today, thrill-seekers can enjoy a day of adrenaline on the rapids of the Upano River with an exciting rafting adventure in the heart of the jungle. For those seeking a more tranquil experience, we offer immersive jungle hikes, exploring the biodiversity and learning about the traditions of the local indigenous communities.
At the end of the day, you’ll unwind at the lodge, enjoying its amenities and preparing for the next adventures.

In Chiviaza, we’ll explore a system of waterfalls and discover petroglyphs on a local farm, a unique archaeological treasure connecting us with ancient civilizations.
The day will end at a lodge in Limón Indanza, where we’ll enjoy a group dinner and share stories of the day.

Limón Indanza – Gualaquiza – Sigsig – Sanjuanpamba
This day will start early for birdwatching enthusiasts. After breakfast, we’ll visit the Coloradas Waterfalls and the Catazho area, known for its petroglyphs. Our destination is Gualaquiza, the Pearl of the Amazon, where we’ll explore its natural and cultural richness before heading to the Cueva Negra de Chobsi and one of the most important centers of toquilla straw weaving.
We will spend the night at Hacienda Sanjuanpamba, where a hearty dinner awaits after a day full of discoveries.

On our final day, we’ll travel the Route of Fruits, which connects Paute, Bulán, and Azogues, savoring the landscapes and fresh local produce. Finally, we will conclude our journey with a visit to the Pumapungo Museum and Archaeological Center in Cuenca, where we’ll take part in a traditional Andean ceremony symbolizing our connection to the earth and our roots.
