DAY 1

Quito - Cotacachi - Imantag - Tumbabiro

A Journey Through the Northern Andes

Departing from Quito, this unforgettable ride takes you directly north through the scenic highlands of Pichincha. As you ascend into the Northern Andes, you’ll travel along unique mountain roads carved into dramatic landscapes, passing through traditional rural communities and enjoying stunning panoramic views of cloud-kissed peaks and fertile valleys.

Your first stop will be Laguna Cuicocha, a serene high-altitude lake surrounded by páramo vegetation. It's a peaceful location perfect for stretching your legs, taking photos, and connecting with nature in its purest form.

The adventure continues to Cotacachi, a charming town known for its leather artisanship and Andean traditions. Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at El Leñador, a local restaurant that serves traditional flavors of the region in a warm and rustic setting. Afterward, you’ll explore Cotacachi’s quaint streets, local markets, and artisan shops.

In the afternoon, your ride will take you along a hidden gem of a route through Imantag, offering spectacular views, peaceful rural settings, and one of the most scenic roads in the highlands. You’ll finish the day at the tranquil Hostería San Francisco, nestled in nature and known for its thermal pools and peaceful ambiance. Relax, unwind, and enjoy a gourmet three-course dinner prepared by the in-house chef.

Allies in Lodging: Hostería San Francisco

Through Valleys of Culture, Peace, and Stunning Highland Roads

Tumbabiro - Valle del Chota - Otavalo - San Pablo - Quito.

After a restful night at Hostería San Francisco, you’ll begin the day riding toward the warm and historically rich Chota Valley, home to vibrant Afro-Ecuadorian communities known for their music, traditions, and cultural resilience. The contrast between the lush highlands and the arid valley below offers a powerful visual and cultural shift.

From Chota, the road climbs again toward Mira, a peaceful Andean town perched high on the mountainside. Here, you’ll visit the breathtaking Mirador del Cóndor, a viewpoint offering expansive views of the valley and—if you're lucky—a chance to spot majestic Andean condors soaring above.

Continuing on the Ruta de la Paz (Route of Peace), a scenic and symbolic path connecting historical and cultural sites, you’ll arrive at the elegant Hacienda Piman. Nestled in the dry forests of the northern Andes, this 17th-century estate will treat you to a refined three-course gourmet lunch, blending Ecuadorian flavors with modern cuisine.

In the afternoon, the journey winds through Ibarra, where you’ll make a quick stop at the famous Laguna Yaguarcocha—a lake with a dramatic history and serene beauty.

The last part of your ride takes you through Otavalo, renowned for its Indigenous culture and world-famous artisan market, and then over the mountains toward Cayambe, where you'll get a taste of its unique highland culture and traditions—perhaps even sampling its famous bizcochos if time allows.

You’ll return to Quito by sunset, completing a two-day ride through some of Ecuador’s most iconic and diverse landscapes.
