DAY 1
QUITO - PATATE - BAÑOS - PUYO

Peak and jungle adventure
Starting from Quito, we’ll head south along the Inter-Andean Valley. If the weather is on our side, we’ll be able to admire the majestic Cotopaxi volcano, Rumiñahui, the Ilinizas, and other peaks of the magnificent Andes mountain range. This region is renowned for its dramatic volcanic geography and breathtaking highland landscapes. We’ll pass through the charming towns of Tambillo, Machachi, Lasso, and Latacunga before reaching Salcedo, where we’ll turn east towards the Eastern Cordillera on newly paved secondary roads. This area is primarily agricultural, with a variety of crops depending on the region, including maize, wheat, quinoa, potatoes, and other vegetables.
Our journey will take us to the picturesque Patate Valley, famous for its winding roads and stunning scenery. Patate is well-known for its delicious traditional cuisine and locally sourced agricultural products. From here, we’ll continue towards Baños de Agua Santa, following a similarly winding but incredibly scenic route, offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. Baños is a tourist destination, perfect for nature and adventure enthusiasts. It also serves as the gateway to the Ecuadorian Amazon.
From Baños, we’ll follow the Amazonian Highway, before reaching Río Verde, we’ll marvel at the impressive Pailón del Diablo waterfall. We’ll continue towards the city of Puyo, deep in the Amazon, where we can indulge in exceptional local cuisine at one of its quality restaurants.
From Puyo, we’ll head north, passing through towns like Santa Clara, which invite you to experience the true essence of the jungle, before arriving at Tena and Archidona. Along the way, we’ll pass through Puerto Napo, where we’ll have our first encounter with the Napo River. In Tena, we’ll find our resting point, with a selection of excellent hotels and Amazonian lodges. Here, our rafting experts will brief us on the thrilling rafting adventure planned for the next day.
